Our NYC cycling team had a great time riding in the scenic hills of Northern New Jersey to help lead the 1st annual Care Plus Ride for Wellness. Click HERE for more.
Last Saturday and Sunday we were in San Francisco for the Veg Festival. Believe it or don't, but the green van doesn't need to be pushed anymore to start. Yeah!
The Washington, DC chapter's first meeting went well- with 12 interested members and more who couldn't make the meeting, we're off to a good start.
We discussed OA membership and clothing, training and racing together, potential events, potential local sponsors, and where we wanted to take the group. Our next meeting is tentatively set for Nov. 2nd, and will be a potluck.
The course is only 12.5 miles (4.4 flat then abruptly climbing 2000’ for the remaining 8.1 miles). Our field took the flat at a very mellow pace, then the _ _ _ _ hit the fan as we started the climb. In about 1 minute, the lead group was down to 6. After about 5 minutes, a solo rider accelerated away from our group. I was monitoring just one guy and felt if the escapee was a threat to the guy I was watching that he would quickly close up the gap. He did not seem bothered so we rode on as 5 as the escapee disappeared from sight.
Today was a good day. After months of planning and never knowing if we were getting anything accomplished, we seemed to have got through it. The Tour D' Organics Portland ride is history, for 2008. It is still to be determined on whether it was good or not so. As a chapter and a team it was a huge success. We came together and got the job done and made our chapter a closer knit group. This may not be visible to anyone but me, so I want to let everyone know; You All did a tremendous job and I thank you for helping me make this ride and chapter work.
OA Sonoma County will be leading a backpack trip in Point Reyes National
Seashore. I have reserved a group backcountry site for Friday and
Saturday night, Oct 10 & 11 at Wildcat camp.
Hike: is 6.3 miles from Bear Valley Trailhead, which is just from the Bear Valley Visitors Center with ample overnight parking.
MTB: trail is on Stewart trail ONLY from the Five Brooks trailhead (which I believe has overnight parking as well) 6.7
strenuous miles. Checkout website for map details.
Short hike from camp to the beach. The camps have toilets and drinking
Bradley, Brett, Andy and myself mark part of the Tour d'Organics course. It was a long day on and off the bike, thanks Bradley for pulling the trailer.
Tour D' Organics Sebastopol was amazing! After all the long hard hours of preparing for the ride and getting through registration, I was fortunate enough to get in the 35 mile ride with Sara. We found Brett and her mom Betsy helping at the Golden Nectar rest stop. Listen to what they had to say.
Our Sonoma County chapter organized the 4th annual Tour d'Organics in Sebastopol this past weekend. Over 1000 cyclist participated. I'll get a more in depth report later, but for now suffice it say that it was awesome.
