Another weekly race, Emile and i were there, tho so was Don Gillmore, whom i've called 'The Immortal'. He's insanely strong, last year he lapped the field TWICE solo in a points race.

The A field has been nice and big, about 10 riders tonite.

Started off with a short (15lap/5km) Scratch race. The bunch held together for the most part, until Don lifted off. He made a quarter lap very quickly, and Emile launched after him. I'd started the race in much-too-much a light gear (82" or 47x15, which was fine when it was colder, but it was actually warm tonite!) I mainly just kept the pace high, shelling as many people before the final sprint as i could...finished sixth since i couldn't sprint..haha..

Next up was a 20 lap Tempo race (every lap first two people get 2 & 1 pts), Wayne took off like a shot, i got on his wheel, let him nab two points, then i got on front, picked up the pace significantly (45kph to well over 50kph) but got nipped at the line so only scored one point, but from there Don took off, and Emile chased. Sadly, no one else pursued. There were five of us after a couple laps, and Chad and myself would take strong pulls, and we'd creep closer to the Immortal and Emile, but then the other three people would go on front and slow it up, or just pull off...gaaah... Oddly, this was one time i wouldn't have minded catching Emile in a break!! Come the final lap, the bell goes, and Don is very close to catching us!! I sprint off, and take 3rd in the sprint, way ahead of everyone else (Don and Emile were way ahead of course.) With my point and finish spot i got 3rd after Don and Emile. Emile managed to work with Don while they were away, but in the end Don just pulled away with a couple laps to go. ;)

Final race was a Win'n'Out, there's one neutral lap then all hell breaks loose, and the first person over the line wins, and is out, and the race continues, next lap, first people over again wins 2nd place, and so-on. There were only four of us, but each is much more of a sprinter than i...frack. I decide to try and challenge Wayne, who's obviously going for first....i hold him for the first bit, but he pulls away.....and i start to fade...2nd lap the other two riders catch me and sprint by....that's pretty much game over for me, i get 4th..haha.. I played that pretty stupid. I should have just gotten on Wayne's wheel, let him pull me through, and 2nd would have been a breeze...d'oh!

The points we earned, however, now place me in 2nd overall in the Track scoring, and Emile of course remains 1st - woohoo! We're also totally cleaning up in the Points section as well. =)

The Duathlon OA Vic is organizing is on Saturday, and Sunday is my favorite crit in town, just a few blocks from my home, pancake flat, nice corners, etc.. Emile and i will be in that as well - yip!!
