King Winter

Although King Winter officially hasn't started yet, we got our first share of snow this weekend. On Saturday it all was quite okay, but today most roads were quite slippery and this afternoon everything is covered with a white layer. While most people like snow, I can't appreciate it very much. The main reason for it being that I have to be flexible what to do at the track. Today the track was covered with some ice and snow, so doing speed training would not go very well. Today I did a 'hill' workout, running 20 times up on a slight hill. My coach told me to this last Wednesday, but after the heavy rain of the last couple of days, I thought it would be difficult to run smoothly up on the hill, I thought it would be more of a jump training, jumping over puddles. Actually the steepest side of the hill was pretty good to do the workout. After all the workout went quite well, and I even managed to keep my clothes almost completely clean, even while I ran on wet surfaces and through some puddles! I know, most of you like digging through the mud, and even put some more mud on their faces, but I like to keep it 'clean'. For me these months aren't my favourite months of the year. For my muscles it is better when it's warm and with temperatures of 32°Fahrenheit. Cold weather isn't that much of a problem, but when it rains or snows, my training might become a dangerous adventure when the track becomes slippery. I'll be very happy to seek the comfort of the indoor hall in Ghent for my competitions! Nevertheless I have to thank the weather gods, because I could do all my workouts without getting wet so far! On Friday it was pouring until just 5 minutes before I had to take off to the track and for about 1,5 hour it didn't rain, just enough time to complete my workout! It's been like this several times, so thank you gods! :)

At the end of next week I'll take a little break and take the time to decompress a little. For that I'll attend one of the last concerts ever of one of my favourite bands, Hell Is For Heroes, in London. It will be a blast! I saw them once in Brussels as a support act for Papa Roach and it was the best concert I ever attended (the combination of Papa Roach together with support acts Hell Is For Heroes and Murderdolls). I'll also grab a drink with a girl I met in LA and with whom I visited Universal Studios and Runyan Canyon. Probably I'll also go and see the Animal Aid's Christmas without cruelty fair. It's gonna be a great time!

Yesterday I answered a couple of questions someone asked me for her article. She's studying journalism and wanted to write something about veganism. I told her I wanted to do an interview and when I mentionned I was a vegan athlete, she seemed very interested in everything OA is about. If the article is ready (don't know if it's just for an assignment or whether it will be published) and I get it somehow, I'll post it here. I wrote a 2-page report on my US trip for the magazine of my athletics club, which will be available somewhere in December.

Snow makes for epic

Snow makes for epic cyclocross conditions. Nys did it again in Hamme-Zogge.
