Who Killed The Electric Car

Amazing, amazing film. The link above has all 92 minutes of it. Don't know how long that link will continue to work, but I'm sure you'll be able to find it online somewhere else if it stops working.
In college I had an internship at a small engineering company one summer. One project I worked on was to creating pneumatic tooling that would automate the assembly of the GM EV1 electric car's "relay", essentially a fancy on/off switch that would be used when you turned the key. Mine was a project simple enough that a college kid getting paid $10/hr could figure it out in a few weeks. It wasn't much, just a bit of CAD drawing and talking to a machinist and my boss, but I was stoked to be doing something "good" and I had hope for the future and wanted to work on alternative technologies after graduation. The U.S., it turned out, just wasn't such a great place to do this type of work....yet.
I only ever saw a few EV1's on the road, then after a while didn't see any and I knew the "zero emission" law had been shot down.
Watching this film tonight has re-sparked my interest in alternative technologies. We've got to do something sooner or later, and a Prius just isn't enough.

Funny you mentioned this, I just met the director a few weeks ago at a solar fundraiser. He's working on the sequel and also just got his new Tesla a week ago which you can read about on his blog. Trying to get him up to Ventura to at least give me a ride haha
