Double Duty
It may be 'cross season, but I'm still getting my run on. Riding a bike is great and all, but there is something about flying over the ground on two feet that just feels so natural. Oh, and there is a 5k I want to hit hard this coming weekend.
I've gotten in two runs a day, both yesterday and today. In the mornings I've gone out for a 5-6 miler just to shake out the body (6:10-7:00 min/mile pace). And then in the afternoons I've been heading to the track for a workout I call "The 13er"- Thirteen laps of blissful fun around the eternal oval. Every other lap I do in 2:00 then 1:12-1:15, which translates to roughly 8:00 min/mile and 4:50-5:02/mile. The final lap I do the first 200m easy, then kick the last 200m home. It's not all out, but a good chance to work on some speed. But, while I may not be a world class marathoner, it's still kind of depressing that running 1/4 of 1 mile at Haile Gebrselassie's world record pace is no easy task.
Interestingly, while Haile is not veg* (to my knowledge), it seems his diet is limited to only vegetables and injera during training. I'm going to have to look into eating this injera stuff...

"speed"
For the "real" speed work you should do workouts like mine, and I'm not laughing. ;)
It's a pity I can't sprint out everybody for the first 200m in Santa Rosa... :)
